The goal for this project is to motivate more investors in all sectors that are operating in Tanzania to respect and promote human rights within their particular spheres of influence.

World wide interest in corporate social responsibility is on the rise. In many countries, the field of human rights and business is still new. There have been a number of reports on human rights abuse and violation.

In Tanzania particularly, is now into free economy and there have been high promotion of foreign investment. Recently, establishment of foreign investment companies such as, flower plantations, biofuel plantations, mining companies, financial institutes, and food and textile industries is highly increasing.

In the area of human rights, investors are supposed to be more concerned with working conditions and impacts on the community. Implementing human rights within a corporate policies and practices is a matter of investment and helps companies or industries to identify cost reduction or improve productivity.
The most significant opportunity available for a company to actively implement human rights are; good reputation of company and products, increased motivation and productivity of workers, understanding of the society in which the company works, license to operate (good relations with community groups, NGOs, unions and other stakeholders), effective risk identification and management, attractive investment condition, contribution to corporate social responsibility and sustainable development.

Through this project, Envirocare is providing training to management and employees on human rights and business to create awareness and promoting the use of human rights and business tools which is Human Rights Compliance Assessment tool (HRCA), Tanzania Country Risk Assessment (CRA) and the Quick Check which is a summary of the main HRCA document. The project also supports companies/ industries in the use of the tools.

The use of human rights compliance assessment tool will enable a company or industry to conduct a practical self assessment. The assessment covers areas of violations of human rights in relation to individual employed by the company, seeking employment with the company or industry and all rights related to employment practices.

The project also provides a link between investors (companies, industries,) and local communities and the civil society organization to face challenges and opportunities when an investor operates in Tanzania.
